"SK Lighting Design" has evolved over some considerable time from the comprehensive range of services offered by the engineering design consultancy of Simpson Kotzman.

"SK Lighting Design" provides an independent service to the building design industry enabling the important lighting component of a project to be incorporated as a discipline in its own right in the development of a buildings design.

By separating the lighting design group from the electrical engineering discipline of the consultancy, we are able to provide a specialist, and more sympathetic approach, in the art of lighting, freed from the more technical and restrictive engineering based responses to lighting tasks.

However, as "SK Lighting Design" is retained as a component of the Simpson Kotzman services consultancy practice, we are able to provide the all important co-ordinated approach to the final detailed services design which is required for buildability and efficiency in the design product.

The aim of "SK Lighting Design" is to develop lighting solutions which not only represent suitable and practical lighting designs but also complement the architecture and interior design aspects of the building and which may in some cases drive these aspects depending on the nature of the assignment.

Our designers believe that the key to a successful, integrated lighting design is to develop in conjunction with the building designer, and preferably at the conceptual stage, lighting and building schemes of a complementary nature. We utilise our large knowledge of the ranges of luminaires available and, where necessary, develop specially designed luminaires in this process. As well, our designers understand the technical lighting parameters, but, more importantly, have an empathy with the aesthetic considerations.
